MAY DAY.
SUCCESSFUL BLACKBALL OUTING. I Tin' Red Flag was flown proudly over the Miners’ Hall all day yesterday at I Blackball, the occasion being the <:<■!<>- I bration of the workers’ international I day, May Day. The weather was perfect : nd proceedings. were started by the Blackball Sil ver Band which played several selections outside of Mettrick’s Hall. The speeches which had been arranged for inside the hall were dispensed with, as both Messrs J. A. McDonald and Ben Davidson had arranged to speak at th? I Buller demonstration held at Wanmangaroa. An adjournment was then made to the Domain, when* a most enjoyable | day was spent. As well as the attrac-i tion of children’s sports, a good programme of adult sports was run | and tin* representative Soccer match.' Buller v. Westland, was played. Most of those present at the sports wore the red favours of the Interna--tional, ami regrets were expressed, in view of the beautiful weather, that :i | combined demonstration was not held ini Greymouth. The football playing area] was greasy for Hie Soccer match. The sports items were all well contested, and* large fields were the order of the dry. ’ There must have been 400 people at! the gathering.
