RUGBY CUP.
PRRESENTATION TO JACK STEEL. AS THE BEST ALL BLACK. There was a numerous and representative gathering of sporting- folk last night at the Empire Hotel at a social whereat Air Jack Steel was presented with the solid silver cup d* mited by Messrs O. AL Smith and Co.. Ltd., of Dunedin, by the English firm of Alcssrs Jenkins and Timm Ltd, for the best New Zealand footballer in the three test match. < against the Springboks on their recent New Zealand tour. Air J. Air John Knox, representative of Smith and Co made the presentation, <ulogiSing the recipient for his consistently brilliant play in the international Rugby arena. Other speakers said it was a great achievement for a footballer to become an Ail Black but to be selected as the best of them was quite unique. Air Steel duly returned thanks for the handsome cup, which he greatly valued, not only whimsically, but for what it represented in the sporting sens-e. Among the toasts honoured were “The Guest.” “The Donors,” West Coast Athletic Champions,” and “Kindred Societies.” The speakers included Alcssrs J. F. AN ilson, Knox. F. C. AVade (cx-Coast Rugby rep), AVm. Aleates (President Old Boys' Association). T. Aldntosh (Star Football Club) C. Hall (Alarist Club), Williams (Cobden Football Club), Ryan (United Football Club). Sime Golf '. Dennehy (Tennis), K. Williams (Grey Jockey Club), Dun lord (Sports Clubl. and K. Skoglund (Bcxing Club and Borough Council). The handsome solid silver cup was greatly admired by all present.
