WAITUA NOTES.
(Our Owu Correspondent.) Personal. Mrs. Stacpoolc has returned from a holiday visit to the Empire .City. Mrs Brough and family have left for Australia, where they intend spending a few months. Mrs Brough’s mother accompanied them. I Many local sports intend visiting the Christchurch Easter race meeting. Football. The League Club met here on Saturday evening. The meeting was the largest ever held locally, which speaks we(l for the League game this year. The President, Air Northey, occupied the chair. The past year’s financial statement showed an expenditure of £6O. This Club pays all married men’s fares to matches, and .pays for accidents at £2 10s per week, which means heavy expenditure. Officers were elected for the ensuing season, and Mr B. McKane appointed delegate to the Centre. Cricket. A team of cricketers selected from the North and City teams journeyed to | Reefton on Sunday and were defeated by 12 runs. P. O’Donnell was in good form, compiling 46 runs. As a match was played locally, the team could nov take the material, and had to plyy with the Reefton practice bats, as that club would not allow the use of match bats. Good sports, eh! The local match resulted in Wanderers defeating Suburbs by six runs. Cutbush 36, Bartlett 17, and Holman 15 were the principal scorers, while Darby, 11 for 41, Bosher, 8 for 29, and Fairmaid, 7 for 42, bowled best. Athletics. Our local runners Watts and Cutbush, arc geting in fine form for the Easter meeting.
