GLASS INDUSTRY.
START IN NEW ZEALAND WELLINGTON, Jan 16. There arrived by the Maheno from Sydney, Mr W. J. Smith, director of the Australia Glass Manufacturers’ Co., Ltd., a concern with a large capital which trades throughout all the capital cities of the Commonwealth. Mr Smith is accompanied by his brother, Mr David Smith, and their intention is to immediately commence the erection of an up-to-date glass bottle factory in the Dominion. The matter of location lias not yet been definitely decided, but from impressions received and facts already obtained it is likely that Wellington will be the chosen position for the works, which will directly employ not less than 200 men. The company is not seeking capital but intends offering an opportunity to New Zealand bottle concerns to take up stock in the local business. It may be mentioned that there docs not exist at present any bottle-making concern in New Zealand.
