Nelson returned to Greymouth by the overland express on Saturday evening after completing her ’ course of training at St. Helen’s Home at Christchurch, where she has been for some months. , Mr John Muir has just undergone , an operation at Reefton Hospital for , the amputation of one of his toes, ren- , dered necessary from the effects of an i accident to his leg some years ago at Paparoa. The West Coast delegates to the Licensed Victuallers Conference in {Wellington, Messrs J. D. Lynch (Na- : tional Council), G. Perotti (Greymouth), Stapleton (Reefton), and ■ Keller (Hokitika) left by the express on Saturday. Our Ross correspondent writes: On Tuesday the late Michael Mulvaney, who was drowned in the River Mlkonui, was accorded a military’- funeral at Ross. It was the largest seen there for years, including a numerous body of returned soldiers and friends from all over the district, gathered io pay to the memory of deceased a last tribute of respect. The late Mr Mulvaney had a splendid war record being entitled, it is said, if he had his rights, to the V.C., though he never himself suggested it. Not only had he the D.C.M., but the reputation of a brilliant revolver shot. Rev. Dr. Kennedy (Hokitika) assisted by Rev Father assisted by Rev Father Riordan officated at the graveside.
