On Christmas Eve & motor conveyed acceptable and sen son gifts to the Home from tlie numerous hotel-keepers throughout town. It was late in the Eve when the good tilings arrived and all the. old -pioneers were "dead to the world"' but on Christmas morning the aged inmates indulged in the sunrise packets and blessed the donors for their thoughtful gifts. t Miss Fox, daughter .of Councillor fox, who is in the Base Recards Office in "Wellington, is spending annual leave in "West/port, Bridges on the various County roads a-re undergoing repairs and being made safe to meet the increasing amount of vehicular traffic that the structures are being subjected to. Most perfect weather prevailed on Tuesday for the "Westport Trotting Club's second day, midsummer meeting. The gathering present seemed even , larger than on the first day when wet weather, to some extent militated against the attendance, "Raincoats and umbrellas which were very much in evidence were conspic-' uous by their absence, and in their place were many summer sporting suits and n. striking aray of dainty summer, frocks. From all accounts the pat te. its at the local hospital spent a very haippy time on Christmas Eve, when Santa Claus paid his customary visit to the institution and brought with him gifts for all, who through the misfortune, were unable to spend and enjoy the festive season i.i their own home environment. It was fully anticipated that ''Daddy" Christmas would ocmo, and for the occasion the matron and nursing staff had the wnrds decorated with flowers and evergreens and in direction things were most suitable and appropriate for his reception and the presentation of gifts.
