TRENTHAM SCHOLARSHIPS

The first aAvards under the Trentham Scholarship War Fund scheme were an•lounced on Friday. The fund amounts co ££38,000, and was established for the purpose of assisting in the educational advancement of the children of soldiers of the Ncav Zealand Expeditionary Force. The executive comprises Mr S. Kirkcaldic (chairman). Colonel H. E. Potter, C.M.G., Dr J. W Anderson, Messrs C. P. Skerrett, K.C., A. F. Eoberts, M. J. Eeardon, J. Caugh'.ey, Major O 'Sullivan, and Major-Gen-eral Sir E. W. C. Chaytor. The executive dealt Avith applications in thi following order: (1) Children of • deceased soldiers, first preference; (2) children of disabled soldiers, in accordmcc Avith the degree of disability suffered by the soldier after taking intc ronsidcration .the financial position of he applicants and the purpose for .vhieh assistance had been sought. It was decided to make the awards for 12 months only, and subject to satis 'actory arrangements feeing made by he recipients to ensure that the educational advantages offered Avill bo iA;ailcd of. It is ,}hc aim of the executive to apply the funds at its dis posal of the children of deceased and disabled soldiers, both as regards capi ' tal and interest ,so as to exhaust th<: fund Avithin a period of 20 years.
