The baths are in a deplorable condition, great iissures appearing in the sides and so those, which point to the fact the supervision in their construction was of a very bad order. The Council are approaching the Government for the necessary supply of cement. The town should not be without these necessary ad in nets to health. I Regret sincerely to report that a popular resident, in the person of Mr John Kavanagh, passed away yesterday. Deceased, who was a member of the Hokitika Mental Hospital staff, had boon suffering from typhoid and his life was despaired of for some days. Ho was a native of Ireland and highly respected. Be has been in New Zealand for nineteen years. He leaves a wife and six little children (four boys and two girls) the eldest being ten years. He leaves also a brother, Mr »T«s. Kavanagh, of St. Patrick's College, Manly, Sydney, and. another brotlicr, a well-known farmer in Taranaki. Deceased, who was only. 46 years of acje. was a most genial personality, and highly esteemed by aH who knew him. ]U"aTiy friends will deeply regret his and will extend sincere srwr>nthy to his bereaved wife and family. Another well-known citizen whose death. I have to report is the Borough Overseer, Mr John Maunder, who after an illness of some considerable duration , due to diabeteo, died yesterday mi the age of 46. He was a native of Holntika, and had held the borough ovorseership with credit for many v-onrs, sticking to his duties despite illness. Deceased, was very highly respected by all who know him, and his. relatives will have the sympathy of friends throughout the district. He leovos n, wife, one son (Mr Gco. Moundor nf the Bank of New Zealand staff*) and four daughters, also a, sister (Mrs. Rastgato, of the North Island).
