The Westport Trotting Ohib t are arranging w ith the District Traffic Manaker at Greymouth for a special horse train to leave Inangahua Junction on Wednesday December 29. This will enable horses competing at the West•port meeting t"o return here two days prior to commencemnt of the Grey meeting.

A rather unexpected request submitted by the drapery employers ' reprcs.cntative (Mr. E. J. Smith), at the Conciliation Council yesterday in connection with the shop assistants' dispute, was one to have the Runanga Cooperative Society excluded from the Award, which it was proposed to set up. The reason advanced was that Runanga was outside the district to which a "Westland Award . should ' apply. The representative of the workers (Mr. R. D. Martin), characterised it as an extraordinary request, and asked upon what authority it was made by Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith's interesting explanation was that Runanga was' in the province of Nelson. Mr. Martin pointed out that it was not a matter of provincial, but of industrial districts. It would in any circumstances be absuTd to 'tittach Runanga to Nelson City, which was something like a couple of hundred miles away, whilst Greymouth was only four or so. The Commissioner said he'd look into the matter. It may be remarked that several existing industrial awards have left the matter nowise in doubt, such as^the awards, for the timber ; workers, coal miners, deputies, gold miners, engine drivers, which all apply to both sides of the Grey River which is the dividing line between the provinces.
