(A. and N.Z. Cable Association.)
(Reed. December 35, 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, December 35. In the Now South Wales Assembly, to-day, between sixty and seventy women, with their babes in their arms, and with, toddlers congregated in the corridors, made an endeavour to interview Mr. Storey (Premier) to seek relief over Christmas. . Dr. Arthur convened the gathering, with the object of emphasising the urgency of a Motherhood Endowment Bill, which Bill' the Government has held over till next session. When tho House met some recriminatory exchanges took place 'between I Mr. Storey and Dr. Arthur. The Premier said ho hoped that as the women had been sent on a wildgoose chase, they would flog Dr. Arthur within an inch of his life, and would wipe his shadowy, miserable carcase out' of existence. Dr. Arthur retaliated., and accused Mr. Storey of increasing his own salary and abandoning a loudly-promised Bill proposing a motherhood endowment.
