HOTELKEEPERS HONOURED.

I Yesterday afternoon* a gathering of , hotelkeepers and representatives of I sporting bodies assembled at the Park Hotel took place, the occasion being ito bid au revoir to Messrs T. Shannahan and J. McCarthy two hotel licensees Avho are leaving Greymouth. : Mr Shannahan intenas taking up farming at Ikamatua while Mr McCarthy is going to No Town. Mr R. Russell of the Licensed Victuallers Association occupied the chair and besides the guests, Mcssis Shannahan and McCarthy, the f olloAving were present: — Messrs C. Nissen, J. Nash, Greymouth Boxing Association, A. Grogan (Coursing Club), A. Johnson, McKcchnic, T. Ashton, P. McCormack, Licensed Victuallers Association, L. Pedrazzi, W. Joyce and A. Bcban. Apologies for absence aa-ci-c received from the Deputy-Mayor (Mr H. l'arfitt), Messrs A. Sealmcr ,J. Irvine, G. fcfim'eon, G. Pcrotti, H. Doogan, J. D. Wingham, K. Skoglund, T. Millijjan, F. Mibie and E. Quinn, F. Ives, T. O'Brien, W. McFarlane, P. Fitzgciald. Mr R. Russel made a presentation of a purse of sovereigns from the Licensed Victuallers Association, to Mr McCarthy and in doing so paid a tribute to- his integrity and courtsey. He Avishcd him long' life and prosperity. From the Greymouth Boxing Associaton and L.V.A. Mr Shannahan Avas the recipient of a case of pip : os and :<- --pouch and a cheque for Mrs Shanahun. Mr Nissen expressed regret at losing \ such a valuable Avorker of the Associa tion and expressed the hope that Mr Shauahan Avould not lose touch A.ith the Association. Messrs Bebun, Ashton, Nash, Joyce and Grogan also spoke and said tributes to the gentlemanly crualities of the guests. Mr McCarthy in responding, tendered his sincerest thanks to those ..'resent for their kincily remarks and to his friends for their presentation. Ins relations with members of the L.V.A. [ had been extrem'eiy pleasant and ho had found that each gave a helping hand to ono anotner on occasions Avherc it Avas necessary. * Mr Shanahan also returned thanks to those friends Avho had made him 'he presentations. His connection with the L.V.A. and the Boxing Association had given him great pleasure. Regarding the Boxing Association, he said that he intended to keep in touch with the game and hoped to haA r c many pleasant re-unions Avith his friends of the ring. At the conclusion Ml 7 Nash proposed the health of Mr and Mrs Russell, (host and hostess) and tho toast was drunk with musical honours.

The newly formed Callaghans Sawmill , Titd, according to the Gazette was registered on the 16 th inst with a ca-pital of £2000, the shoreholders boing:— J. Park (GOO) J. A. Muvdodi (.600) T. Stopforth (600) and S. J. Preston (400).
