The first star is a "Widow by Proxy" and the main feature is a Paramount special "Fires of Faith" Elizabeth Blake, a beautiful young woman, lives with her foster parents Mr and Mrs Joseph Lee, on a. farn* The manager of the Traverse Estate, of Avhich the Lee's farm forms a part, notifies the Lee's that £hey must vacate the farm, Elizabeth tells the Lee's that she is going to the city to earn money for their support, and they give . her a letter to the Salvation Army, Elizabeth is loved by Luke Barlow, a farm Avorker, but refuses to listen to his a-voAvals. She obtains a position as companion to Agnes Traverse, and Avhen she enters the Traverse home she attracts the attention of Shruthard, avlio proves to be the manager of the Traverse Estate. Mrs Traverse countermands Southard's order to the Lee's to evacute the farm and Southard invites Elizabeth to go with him to break the good news. En I route to the farm Southard stops the car in Avhich they are travelling outside Randall's Raod-Hoiise a notorious inn, and induces Elizabeth to enter, here he plies her with champagne and accomplishes her downfall. Elizabeth leaves the inn broken-hearted disgraced despairing and becomes a woman oi the streets. Ole evening, Mrs Traverse prevails upon Harry Hammond, a. Avealthy young broker devoted to Agnes, to' accompany Agnes and herself to a Salvation Army meeting m the slums. Harry is bored and leaA'es in the middle of the meeting, saying he will wait for them outside. Here, he is attracted by a scream, and rushes to the aid of a woman being assaulted by tAvo ru/fians. This woman is Elizabeth, but he fails to recognise her. The men ■n upon Harry and beat him into insensibility, after Avhich they dajrry him away and place him aboard a freighter, Avhich sails for France the lext morning. The cast includes some of the world's greatest motion picture a-rtists, among them being Catherine Calvert, Eugene O'Brien, Rbuy de Remer, Theodore Roberts and Robert Anderson.
