9 ADJUDGED RECOVERABLE., ' BOOKMAKERS IN JEOPARDY. IMPORTANT LEGAL DECtSIfON. (Received November 28 at 5.5. p m) LONDON, Nov 28, v Justice Rowlatt, of the King's bench has decided that under the. Gaming Act, bets made by cheque are recoverable. This matter will be pursued up to the highest courts." The bookmakers declare that if the decision is upheld, it will involve millibns sterling. Already some people have taken steps to recover from bookmakers losses on bets made by cheque. It is stated that one member of the Victorias Club has received a demand for nineteen thousand sterling. Am official receiver- has begun vfco intervene for the benefit of the creditors in one bankrupt estate. The trustees ef other estates are similarly acting. An official of the Victoria .Club declares that as, it is presumable the decision applies to all bets made during the period allowed by the Statue of Limitations' many bookmakers "would bo tfuined unless they were able to recover the puntera winnings from them.
