Dear Sir,— We wish to correct an error which has crept into the' report of the interview we had with the Borough Council,' on Thursday- Evening with reference to obtaining the use of tho Town Hall for six days for the

Chautauqua. session to be held Here next year. The report states "The Chautauqua society bffer'ed £20 and this was refused." This is incorrect. The only mention of any sum in the vicinity of £20 Avas in reference to ib c Elucutionaiy Competitions . when it was stated that the Competitions So.ciety paid £21 for the use of the hall for," six days and nights; but excluding Wedriqsday night. The correct statement, as made to the Council, was Tint Mr Beban wanted £40 for the use of "the Town Hall for the week excluding Wednesday -night: £80 if Wednesdaynight were included. It was Jtlso mentioned to the Council that the local guarantors considered Mr Beban 's price excessive and consequently appointed Us as a deputation to interview the Council, as' it was understood that under the terms of Mr Beban 's lease, the - Council had an absolute right to fake the hall from Mr Beban at any time and to let it to anyone else for any purposes upon giving Mr Beban 14 days ' notice, arid allowing him S re-, bate of the' rent payable by him vlj£ 14/3 per day.
