THE BONUS.

The new bonus is still the chief topic of discussion in trade union circles, and opinion varies widely as to the ultimate outcome. The bonus is being paid by some employers, while others have adjustedi their business in order to make provision for it. Several meetings of Wade. unions have ben held in the north, and when the Arbitration Court" meets in Wellington on the 29th inst. a proposal will be put forward that the bonus is inadequate to mee'' the full increase in the cost of living since March. A claim will also be made j that something in addition to the 9s bonus should be added on the account" of the increase in the price of butter The empyoyers' .representatives will urge tha:fc the bonus represents a higher increase than is justified, and it will be very interesting to learn the. final decision. In view of the court's own own pronouncement, it appears unlikely that any alteration in the amount 'vrill be made, unless, some disi;epa-ncy oan be shown to exist in the figures supplied by the Government Statistician or in the method of compiling them.
