CLASHING SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

(To the Editor.)

.Sir. — Being in the unfortunate geographical position to be 30 odd miles from Westport, anil with no "Argus", agent amongst us, we have to gain our information from outside sources, eithjor by letter or scraps of conversation carried on our bi-daily train. A correspondent of your twitted poor old Mukihinui on clashing with a bal! held at Ngakawau, notwithstanding the ■fact that Ngakawau had advertised their function a nvhilc ahead. We in .Uokihinui have no desire to "scab" on any of our mates in any manner, and the fact that 75 couples attended the Ball here and only 70 couples took' the floor at Ngakawau, makes it manifest that the favourable impression which poor old Mokiljinui carries throughout the BuUer, ensures we would have had a large attendance whether any other place held a Ball -or not. At the time the Ball in question was held did not also one eventuate at Westport, and another tit Burnett's Face?' Why did Mr. Xgakawau Correspondent not scratch the faces of these ball promoters and leave poor old Mokihin vi alone for -once? Mokihinui boys are always known to be good sports and we have no desire to either clash Avith our own mates of any village, or "scab" on them. A word to your Ngakawau co-respondent: Next hall we have at Mokihinui, a complimentary press ticket is available for hi in if he will only send along his name l o th<; Captain of the Football Club. Regarding the fact that, no reply was ■;ent ta. the Ngakawau Committee, we sincerely apologise. It was an oversight ; Lt was not intended as a slur^ to the Ngakawau Committee, or by any means to ignore them. 1 am, etc., — A. BAIN, Secretary M.F.C, Scddonvillc, Nov. 10th. 1920.
