LOCAL AND GENERAL
Mr E. J. O 'Regan, the well-known Wellington barrister, arrived in Greymouth by last night's train from Hokitika. . > Messrs Jack Steel and Con Hall, who have been selected to play for the South Island Rugby team against the North on Saturday, 26th June, leave for Wellington by this morning's express. The well established restaurant, Trocadero is advertised for sale. Anyone requiring a real good business proposition should enquire into this property. Tho only reasons for selling is that the owner is leaving the district. For further particulars see our advertising column?. The Chairman of the Board of Trade says sugar will have to be allocated under the new arrangement after July Ist as heretofore, the Government having bought the Fiji crop, and arranged to pay the Colonial Sugar Coy. for refining it. The Chairmam declared the past arrangements with the Sugar Coy had saved New Zealand two millions. Looks as it the Company in its New Zealand dealings is quite different from what is in th c case of Australia, seeing that it has let slip those two millions for itself and its friends. It is worth noting that sugar shortages are more ; numerous here than in Australia. No doubt that may mean a compulsory saving for some.
