HOUSING PROBLEM
DEMAND FOR GOVERNMENT ACTION. BY WELLINGTON PUBLIC MEETING. URGENT NEED 1 FOR BIG SCHEME. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 3. The urging of the housing problem in the Dominion was emphasised at a public meeting held at the Town Hall here, umVr the ausn'ces of *h" Wellington Labour Representation Committee On the motion of Mr. P. Frasor, M P. the following resolution was. carried nnamiously : — "That this meeting of Wellington citizens calls upon tho Government to im mediately address itself to the problem of the housing of the people of the Dominion. It affirms the overcrowding and fhe {general Jiowinsf condition* in Wellington iuul in many other portions of the country arc a standing disgrace, and a reprach to the Governments of the last decac\o. In view of the fact that the Liberal Loader, Sir .Tosoph Ward, has stated that houses can be pro vidod for 10/(5 per wook. and that four million should bo voted for the purpose this meeting considers that a compre-, hensive Dominion Housing Scheme shon Id be embarked upon without i^elay. . It also asks, in the meantime, until siifficiont homes are provided to moot the re quircnients of the population, that Section 13, Sub-section 1 of the Legislation and Statute Amendment Act of the 15)18 Session of Parliament, wtoicii prevcr*s the ejection of a soldier, discharged sol. dicr. or wife or widow of a sold" or or a « T is<?harged soldier, should be applied to all householders. " •
