AMERICAN NAVAL AIMS. U.S. MINISTER EXPLAINS. NO HOSTILITY TO BRITAIN [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association] (Rec. May 2, U p.m.) LONDON, May 1. Hon. Mr Daniels (American Naval Secretary; was the guest at a luncheon here at which the Duke of Connaught presided. In a speech «Mr Daniels said that it would be a calamity worse than a crime if the United Elates and Britain entered into competition in the naval arena. It would not be for the world's good, he said, if any nation possessed a navy capable of. dominating the world. England, with her great Empire, needed a gieat navy, as also did America, with her huge coast line. Neither country, he said, need entertain any suspicion regarding the" other. . There must never be auy competition. Ou the contrary, he felt assured there would be a combination of mese navies us there had been during the war.
