£ German official Note to the Allies on the food situation states that Germany is now verging* on famine. The bread ration does not exceed eighty grammes daily, and must remain so till after mid-February . The Austrian situation, adds the Note, is ever, getting graver. Vienna is now w*____'out coal, and the railways and .street lightnig are shortly ceasing. 'The food sup-, plies in Austria will not last beyond the 31st of December.

(Rec. December 7, .5. p.m.) AMSTERDAM, December 6. There has been sharp fighting in several ,We,stphalian towns, between returning soldiers and the local Soviet's troops. ' Thousands' of miners at Hamra struck and , hoisted red flags, on the public buildings. There were similar demonstrations at Wanne.
The soldiers hauled down the flags and dispersed the demonstrators.
RIOTS AT COLOGNE
(Rer. Deremher 7, .5 p!m.) COPENHAGEN, December 6. Tn*»re' wir»fe ".serious" riots at Cologne on the '3rd of December. .A mob plundered shops and attempted to raid a food depots but . retreated- when
faced with machine-guns. Thero were conflicts between the mob aud the police throughout the night. A num-M ber of casualties aro reported.
