An unofficial list of dead totals cne hundred and forty. • A dozen towns were badly rihnken. The Mayor of New York (Mr Bylan) has ordered the closing of the subways leading to the New Jersey shore. Further explosions are imminent. The communities around Morgan 1 , where the plant was situated, have evacuated the town completely. ; Thousands of residents are thronging the roads, the scene T)eing comparable'to that of the early days of the war in Belgium. Many are living'in tents, being afraid to return. The damage is estimated at five million pounds sterling. "
