(Rec. October 5, 10.20 a.m.) LONDON, October n Sir Douglas Haig reports: Substantial progress Was made yesterday south-east, of Beaurevoir, _ also northwards of Gouy, and 'Le Catelet. Over 800 [prisoners were taken. At night we again advanced slightly north-west of Le Catelet. • Intense air. activity has been main-, tafeied. On all possible occasions our counter-attack patrols successfully forestalled the enemy's intentions, by warning our headquarters. Our advancing infantry were screened by smoke-curtains, caused by . smoke bombs dropped from the lair; while forward 'machine-gunners were supplied with, ammunition, dropped by airmen. We destroyed 27 hostile machines, and drove 'down five iiricontrollable. Twelve machines "are missing. We dropped 2(5 tons of bombs by tlay and 30 tons by night, doAig "cousidfeble damage t«o junctions and communications.
