BAYONET FIGHTING EXHIBI-

TIONS,

PROTEST AGAINST CHILDREN'S

PRESENCE

(Per Press Association.)

CHETSTCHURCH, October 4

• At the meeting of Vhe Canterbury Education Bjard to-day, a lengthy letter was read from the National Peace Council, strongly protesting against the children in Standards viva and six being permitted to witness entertainments which have recently been given by a Trentham Physical Training Squad and Bayonet Fighters. The letter wenfl on to say that children were; allowed nowadays to see entertainments', some of which were positively demoralising, and these bayonet exhibitions, in the opinion of vhe Council, came unde^that category. The Council was of the opinion that there was no more degrading spectacle than that of a body of meu demonstrating, with fixed bayonets, the act of killing their fellow-men. Such an exhibition could only instil into the children a spirit of murder aud hatred. The Council therefore desired to protest very strongly agaiJnst the. children being allowed to be present. The letter provoked laughter.

"I move thati we go on to the next business, and not even receive a letter of that sort," said Mr A. Peverill.

However, in order to show the Council some sort; of courtesy, as Mr C. H. Opie, put it, it was decided to receive the letter, by 'six votes to five.
