ENGINEER'S REPORT. i At the meeting of the County Council o n Wednesday, the report or the Engineer (Mr.-Higgins) was dealt with as follows :— Regarding a n 'application by Mr. W. R. VVainman, for extension of Seddon Street, Runanga, the Engineer reported that as the first 7 chains were in Runanga Borough, the Engineer was of opinion that the Runanga Borough Council should be asked to get this portion made before asking the Council to do work furc-ner on. Applicant's rates amounted only to 5s per annum. — Resolved, that no action be taken. An application was made by Geo. Williamson for an increased aniuunt for digging a drain along the west s.de of. Cobden-Barrytown Road, near Dunollie Road.— The Engineer declined to recommend any increase in the subsidy agreed upon.— Resolved that the recommendation be adopted. In reference to an application by J. P. Doolan for opening up road on north bank of Grey River, Block XIII., Mawheraiti, the Engineer reported that all the roads were fenced in, t 0 a large extent by Mr. Halpin, and to a lesser extent by Mr. Doolan. The opening of the" roads would entail great expense for fencing, on both persons, and the opened roads would become a commonage for stray cattle. If either person was dissatisfied he coula fake action in the Supreme 1 Court. — Resolved that no actipn be taken. An application has been made by WestlahtT- Sawmilling Co. to have an old track leading from GreymouthHokitika 'Road at Cameron's School, to the sea -beach repaired. — The Engineer j stated that the Commissioner of j Crown Lands declared that this was • not a legal road, and on this account he did not carry put any repairs. — Re- ' ceived ! An application was received from R. ;R. Hall for £25, being part cost or ! constructing a bust track from KokiriMoana Road, near Brown River, to , his section 2741, on line of Kotuku Road. — The Engineer reported that Mr. Hall had constructed about 100 chains of bush track to give access to his property. He had some land , cleared, and a house and outbuildings erected, and intended milking 20 cows this corning season. — Resolved that £15 be voted for the work. KSgarcling the diversion of amount provided for ronding this section by the Lands Department, it was resolved to write to the Minister of Lands asking for the reinstatement of the amount. i Messrs.
