SOLDIERS' INSURANCE.

QUESTION OF PAYING THE PREMIUMS.

A considerable amount of misappre- •.-•- heusion appears to exist concerning the right ot members of the j^xpedx-, tibnary Forces to have the premium^ on their life insurance policies paid by . the Financial Assistance Board under . all and any circumstances. The following extract from an authoritative letter on the subject shows that it is a matter for the Board to grant or re- > fuse an application: "The Board has ■ authority to grant premiums and war ': loading on a new life policy up to '[ £300 when actually taken out, that is, the first premium must be paid so as * : to enable the policy to be issuedj aud ' the number of same to b^ supplied to this office. The new policy must be a life one, wa? loading not to exceed -\ £7 10s. - If, however, the soldier pre-^ -\y .fers to insure in an insurance, office wno're the war loading iS in excess ox '* £7 10s, he will have to make his own M% arrangements, to meet such excess wary loading. The above are the only conditions under 'which the Board has authority to make a grant on account of Me insurance, and as by your letter; Ht;. wouid appear, that this man has a life ■ .# , . insurance policy of £400, and by the ' : YM amount of premium it is an »endbw- lji | nient policy, the Board will under no 3 consideration undertake this liability. .;';',s I have also to point out that under tha* present circumstances the wife re~" ~'% ceives £173 7s 6d from military 3 sources, which, with the Board's : i grant of £13, makes, a total of £186 "^ 7s 6d, as against her husband's pre- 'j war salary (which included free house ■■% arid allowances) of £192 10s. Under these circumstances it is extremely doubtful whether the Board would '•'■% consider the payment of premiums and | policy, even if brought within the i.] war loadings on a life insurance ?J bounds of their authority." rij ■ " \_i — ___ ■ - ■■*tolßa§
