At the meeting Of. the Grey County Couucn, yesterday, a letter was read norn Secretary Grey Patriotic A - B--soe.auon pointing; out that the CouneU had recently .made the appointment ot a roadman arid passed over the ' application of a returned soldier, who »as quite competent and asking N that the Council .fall into line with other bodies in the Dominion and to give Pieieience to .returned men where quaJihcutions arc equal. Tiie man appointed (Donovan) was previously employed by the Council at Urwell Creek and left the employ in . order to go into camp. He wa 8 subsequently discharged from camp, and being awaro of hi s practical knowledge of road work the Council did not hesitate in appointing him. He moved ■- that the Patriotic Society be advised to this effect., ". . . Or. Robinson seconded the motion. Cr Muiinan was of opinion that a man who was previously employed by.^> the Council and left in order tp go to camp, being subsequently turneddown had the same priority of right as a returned soldier. ; Cr. .Bay butt was of opinion that the ' Patriotic bociety were not doing the ' Council justice. The Council had been providing for returned soldiers.. Me know of a n instance when one of their employees had left to make room tor a returned man.
