OBITUARY— MR J. R. GLASS

It is my painful duty to record the death of Mr James Glass, a well-known farmer of Kokatahi. Mr Glass was in his usual health last week and it was not until Friday morning that he took to bed. In a short time he was unconscious. Medical attention was called in and a second doctor was brought from Greymouth. It w;is found that the unfortunate man hsul an abscess on vhe brain and that an operation would be fruitless. He never regained consciousness, and died at 7 o'clock on Saturday evening. He leaves a widow and a family of two boys. To the bereaved will be extended the sincerest sympathy of the whole community that has befallen them and snatched away their husband and father. Mrs Glass is a daughter of the late David Graham of Kokatahi. Deceased also leaves tw r o brothers, Walter, on active service) and Charles •it Mount Hercules and three sisters, Mrs Mathers of Auckland, Mrs Bergman, of Christchurch, and Miss Glass, Christchuroh. The late Mr Glass was a veteran of the South African War and was yesterday accorded a military funeral. The band attended and played the "Dead March" from his residence to the Cemetery. The pall bearers were South African veterans and returned soldiers. The Last Post was sounded at the graveside by Bandsman L. Ross. The funeral cortege was a large one, a mark of the esteem in which deceased was held by the residents of Kokatahi and Hokitika.
