10 MILES FROM METZ FORTS. (Rec. September 15, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 14. The Americans are now seventeen miles from Metz, and only ten from its outer fortifications, but it must be understood that the advance is not lirected against that fortress. The- enemy is readjusting his line nortlrof the old St Mihiel salient. He is retiring on » front of seven miles between Bezonvaux and Chatillon. The French patrols are in contact with him.
