A high authority writing regarding the British front, satys the situation is regarded as extremely satifaetory. The capture of fivrincourt and the crossing pf the canal to the south gives v possible stepping stone for turning the Canal Dv Nord in the direction of the' Bourlon and Cambrai. The capture of Jeancourt also brings the British a little nearer to the line held in March. ,AYe have reached the borders of the river Lys to the north-westward of Armentieres, and are now in front or Pont De Nieppe, within a mile of Armentieres.
