WESTPORT.

WESTPORT, September 14

Hon. G. W. Russell, who arrived at Westport flu Friday night, came through the Buller Gorge, and on the way examined a truck of coal on the roadside aud entered the mine, which run 8 right off the road into the ).«i!side. Later, when interviewed, he expressed his approval of the completion of Inangahua Railway, in which there is a gap of about 18 miles, so as to allow of the big field of coal i n the Gortxe to be utilised. The Minister later received a reputatation from the Hospital Board regarding a children's ward and other requirements. Yesterday afternoon the Minister visited Waimangaroa, where he received a deputation from the Miners' Unions regarding various amendments to the mining acts. Later the Minister visited Dennistou and inspected the hospital, and gave a brief open air address, at the conclusion of which, on the call of Mr Helson, Secretary of the Miners' Union, he was given a round of cheers. In replying Mr Russell expressed the pleasure the visit gave him and intimated his intention to revisit Denniston at an earlj date. The Minister leaves for Nelson on Monday.
