CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER ACCUSED FOU>Td GUILTY. (Per Press Association.) WANGANUI,. May 20. At the Supreme Court to-day before the Chief Justice, a middle aged man, John Robertson, was! charged with man slaughter of Peter Liirseh at Kariori, 'o-n. . February 23rd. Accused and deceased were working a timber camp with A numbor of other men. Some of whom brought a large quantity at" liquor into the camp about midnight. Prisoner was awakened, and after repeated urgings, joined the party drinking and card playing, followed with the result that ji quarrel started. The deceased claimed accused cheated and struck him until another man intervened. The following morning uc cuscd was seen going towards deceas-ed-'s tent carrying a pick head and de ceased was afterwards found in a dy ing condition, suffering severe injuries to the head. Evidence was giver that deceased was under the iniluenc* of liquor when the quarrel took place Accused said he had no; recollectioi what took place after he was assaulted The jury returned a verdict of guilt} Sentence was deferred.
