A WAGE DISPUTE.,

ENGINEERS' TROUBLES. : WAIHI, May 29. The members of the local branch of, the Amalgamated Society of Engineers having been unable to come to terms with the mining companies in the dispute regarding the wages and hours clauses, as set out in the recent award, , came out on strike at noon to-day. At present only about fifty men are involved, but unless a settlement can be reached, it will become serious and far reaching. A conference with heads of the mining companies was held yesterday afternoon after the stop-work meeting, , and in the evening the men notified the companies that unless their demands were acceded to, the men would cease work to-day.
