) AT THE TOWN HALL . j Mr. C6al.es, whe was. received with prolonged applause, said it was weil worth, fighting the election if he had done no more than to gain the splendid support which lie had received from those who had voted for him. He congratulated his opponents upon the honourable manner in which they had fought, him, and was very glad to be able to say that the wish lie had ex-' pressed at the startf of the contest that the fight on both, sides should bo a clean one, had been amply fulfilled. (Applause). IA congratulating. Ms oor"pr" ptvnent upon winning,. he could only add the hope that Mr. Holland, now that lie was the member for thedisjtrict, would do his utmost to advance jits interests. It was a good community to work for, and he. trusted that Mr. Holland would see that its undoubt ed needs' received the attention they flcserved. He specially^ Uesired, in conclusion, to express to all who had vot ed for him his best thanks for the very substantial support which, they had accorded him. (Applause).
