FOOD POSITION IN ENGLAND. BREAD SUPPLY DEFINITELY AfstiURED.
LONDON, May 28 The Press Bureau reports that the April census shows tiiat the total, acreage of wheat in England and Wales is the highest recorded since ISB2, and the area of barley the highest recorded by 25 per cent., and the area under potatoes is the highest recorded by 27 per cent. The Director-General of Food Production states that the net saving of shipping resulting from the increased production of corn and potatoes in England and Wales alone would amount in the incoming year to 1,500,000 tons. j The "Daily Express" says:—The' Food Ministry considers the bread supply of Britain definitely assured, until next harvest. The policy of extracting the largest proportion of wheat during milling and the admixture of other cereals has been equivalent to a saving of one-tlritd of the yearly average importation without apparently affecting health. Already the proportion of the wheat extraction has been twice lowered and Further reductions will be made when it can safely be done. A number of Danish farm workers will shortly be available" fpr work on English farms.
