MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS.
GREY SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTION.
The annual meeting of householders was held at the State School last evening between 50 and 60 ladies and gentlemen being present. Mr. J. Tennent was voted to the chair. The minutes of the last annual mc"c"ting were read and confirmed. The Chairman read the annual report which was received on the motion of Mr. Bignell, seconded by Mr. Williams. The balance sheet was then read by Mr. Blair and was also received, on the report and balance sheet. In answer to a question as to what course they prepared to adopt m order to liquidate the debt incurred by. improvements to the school grounds. The Chairman explained that firstly were promised £25 by the Canterbury Education Board, se£ondly they proposed holding a children s concert on the 2nd May and thirdly they intended waiting upon householders inviting subscriptions if they succeeded in raising £75 by this means the Government would subsidise them £ for £ and this would enable them to wipe off the whole of the debt. The balance sheet and report ftt read were adopted on the motion ot Mr. HamUeton toy Mr.' Williams. , , , Air Barrowman, Snr. brought up the matter as to ladies being eligible for electors on school committees. He moved that it is the opinion of this meeting /that ladies be eligible) for* election on school committees. Seconded by Mr. Williams and carried. Mr Raleigh asked what was the attendance of each committee man during the year. The Chairman explained that he did not have the particulars at his disposal but he pronounced that the information would be published on Tuesday. The following were nominated tor the Committee: — „•».•»- Messrs J. Tennent, P. .MacKenaie, McGregor, W. Blau-, W. Parfitt, J. H. Weaver, R. J. Williams, R. Castles, J. Scott. L. Aldridge, C. Oraras. _ m " . , Messrs Moeley, D. Tennenfc, J. Saunders, and G. Herring were appointed Scrutineers. Mr Castles moved and Mr. .Dittman seconded that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded the outgoing Committee.— Carried. Mr D. Tennant moved and Mr. Barrowman seconded that a very hearty vote of thanks be accorded Messrs Williams and Sherratt for laying out the grounds.— Carried.
The election of Committee resulted as follows, the first nine being elected : R. J. Williams 54 AY. Blair 52 J. Tennent ol — McGregor 50 P. MacKenzie *° J H. Weaver 48 L. G. Aldridge 44 W. Parfitt 4 2 C. Orams 41 R. Castles 25 J. Scott 16 Each of the candidates returned thanks, the Chairman explaining that this concluded the business, the meetings being brought to a close with a verse of the National Anthem. At a subsequent meeting of the Committee Mr. J. Tennent was elected Chairman and Mr. W. Blair Secretary.
