METHODIST CONFERENCE.
DUNECIN, March 7. The Methodist Conference discussed this morning the suggestion of free speech and politics as related to recent attacks made uopn two clergymen in the north. After a speech by Rev. Ready, the Conference, without further comment, unanimously resolved that this Conference not with satisfaction the expressed determination of the Minister of Justice to prevent any improper interference with the principles of free speech in poliitcs and religion, and to bring to justice any persons guilty of any attempt to interfere with those liberties. Air. Ready expressed the hop.c that the time would, never come in this Dominion when they would have to fight military Romanism with military Protestantism. The Conference also resolved, that in view of the decision of the Chief | Justice re Sunday trading m marble bars, the Conference urge the Minist- • er of Justice to see that the Act will be so amended as to close tnot>o premises on Sunday. The final schedule of ministeriaS stations for 1918 was adopted with the following alterations from tTie firs^t reading: — Avondale second: E. Sage, Hamilton second J. McCarthur, Tamarunui R. Fdrdyll, Wanganui N. Turner, Taihape W. Hocking, Samson and Rongotea B. James, Kilbirnie F. Read, Richmond W. Willis, Reefton Walker, Rangiora second C. Jordan, Timaru, the President to supply, C Jackson. Otago and Southland is ualtered from the first reading.
