. *^ Mr. D. C. Bates reports as follows: Present indications are for variable and strong winds, north-easterlies ruling and banking to south-westerlies shortly, skies clouding over more extensively, with rain and colder weather following generally. The barometer is unsteady in the north, probably rising everywhere from 20 to 30 hours.
