Mr. E. J. Edwards, of the Blenheim office of the Public Works Department, hds received notice of his promotion to the position of chief clerk in the State Coal Mines Office, Greymouth. Private William ("Wag") Harding, of Hokitika, after a lengthy period of service at the front, has been admitted to hospital severely gassed. A Casualty List received late last night includes the names of G. V. S. Ferguson, Westland, 'and F. G. Morgan, Greymouth, among the "not reported as severe cases." This should be cheering news for parents and friends. Mrs W. McCormack of Rimu is advised that her brother Sergt. Sol. Pascoe, well-known in Kumara for many years has been invalided home, and is expected to reach Lyttelton on March 21st. The appointments made at the Methodist Conference include the following: — Rev E. D. Patchett (Nelson), T. J. Wallis (Greymouth), and T. Dent (Rcefton). Sapper J. Vial, of Reefton, of the Seventh Reinforcements, is being in^ valided home, and reaches the Dominion before the end of this month. The returned soldiers who arrived by last night's overland train were: For Greymouth — Privates Barrow, Flaherty, Mason, Morven, Murdock, McGurgan, Nelson, and Shaw, and 2nd Lieut. Franklyn; for Westport — Privates Druery, Lewis* Marshland, Nelson, May, Smith, and Lieut, Hill; for Hokitika — Privates '-Douthwaite, Keenan, Valentine; for Okarito — McCluggage; for Reefton — Nicholas.
