MILITARY SERVICE.
ALLIED FOREIGNEKS LIABLE. WELLINGTON, March C. The Minister of Internal Affairs, referring to the question of conscription of British subjects residing in certain Allied; countries, said advice had been received that agreements had been entered into on the subject between the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Russia. A recent Tress cablegram indicated that an agreement had been made with the United States, so far. j however, official advice had not been i received respecting this agreement. Provision Was made in each agreement thati if persons liable for service refuse, after due notice, to return to thek- own country, they would be compelled to undertake military service i» the country of their residence, unless they can furnish documents delivered by their Diplomatic or Consular authorities certifying to their exemption from military service. It is j suggested that those interested should, if in doubt, ask what their legaL responsibilities are, or communicate with the British Ambassador resident in the country in which they are residing > at present
