THE WEATHER
Mr. D. C. Bates reports as follows
Present indications are for southeasterly gales northwards of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, and moderate to strong easterly to northerly winds increasing elsewhere. Unsettled and cloudy weather is probable generally, and stormy conditions are likely, with heavy rain and rivers rising in the East" Coast districts of the North Island. The barometer is unsteady in the north; but will fall soon in the south.
