He developed his success northward. There is an enemjr, offensive in the region of the Mitau Road. -Thebattlc is proceeding. Enemy attacks in the direction of Kovel, Vladimir Volynski, Fochsani, and Braila failed. RIGA REGION ABANDONED (Admiralty, per Wireless Press) LONDON September 4Russian oP.icial The Riga regionhas been abandoned owing to the threatening situation. VIEWED WITH GRAVEST CONCERN. (Rec. September 4, 7.25 p.m.) LONDON, September 3. The decision to abandon Riga has been received with the gravest concern by the Anglo-Russian community. It is hoped that the dangei l 'J Petrugrad will yet unite all.
