O. Livick, of Nelson, has received news of the death from wounds on August 20th of his nephew, Private Ivan Livick. Private Liviekj who was 24 years of age,- was the dnly^ son of the late Mr. William Livick,. formerly chief clerk in, the Nelson Post Office, and afterwards stationed at Thames and Gisborne. His mother resides at Napier. Prior to his enlistment Private Livick was in the employ of the (Jnibn Company at its Wellington ofices.' Yesterday the sad .news reached Greymouth that Private J. Colton, or South Beach, had died in Reefron. Deceased who is well-known in this district, proceeded to camp some weeks ago, but owing to a breakdowh in his health, was given leave of absence on sick leave. He returned to his home and up to a week ago was in fairly good health. ' A few days ago he visited Reef ton. where unfortunately his state of health became .worse and he failed to survive his illness. . The sympathy of a, wide circle of friends in rGeymouth will be extended to the family. Two brothers are serving— .-with the , New Zealand Expeditionary Force. It is our painful duty to record the sudden deatn of Mrs Oscar Bird (nee Agnes ijiatohelor) of Kuatapu which took place yesterday. She had only been ill for three days and succumbed to an attack of acute pneumonia, The late Mrs Bird was well-known in Greymouth. being a daughter of Mrs Batchelor. of the Terrace. She had worthily contributed to many concerts for a deserving cause, being a")fine vocalist. In addition to her mother. sh«| leaves a husband and girl of eighr -years of age a sister in Greymouth and a brother in Wellington, to all of - whom will be extended great sympathy in their bereavement. A military funeral took place yesterday when the remains of the late Private" Henry Johnson, A-.S.C, who died suddenly during a football match at Featherston, were laid to rest. The Greymouth Citizens' Band mustered in full force, and Captain r<ol e lough haft had charge of the military arrangements. Sergt-Major Atkins, D.C.M., had charge of the- firing party and Lieut Webb commandea the Cadets. After a service had been held at the residence of the deceased's parents in Seddon Street the cortege left ofr tno ceirtetery., The Citizens' Band led, playing the "Dead March," the firing party with arms reversed following. Then came several Expeditionary Force men on leave and members of the* 13th Regiment, who acted as pallbearers. They were followed by the chief mourners, Cadets, school children and friends of the deceased. The cortege was about- a mile in length. The buria was read by the Presbyteian ministers, three clergy being present, at the conclusion of which the firing party fir,ed thhree volleys and Bugler Garth sounded the "Last Post." A handsome porcelain wreath "Immor' telle" was sent by the 1 officers, n.c'.o'Sj/ and men of deceased's late company, A.S.C. Featherston Camp.
