■ (From Our Special Correspondent) There was a 'very satisfactory subscription to the Liberty Loan in Hokitika yesterclay.-r Three persons took ,£IOOO each while numerous subscriptions pf from ;£i6o. to £s<x>- >yere ; made. # It is understood that /two individuals who are reputed . *to be amongst the wealthiest, in the district resolutely decided not to invest despite the advise- to the contrary. It is such persons as these that the extra taxation on "financial shirkers" will fall and they will have but little sympathy when they are finally compelled to disgorge some of their war profits. ■■ (Per Press: Association.) Press Association telegrams give the following . totals :— Ch.ristchurch Post Office, yesterday £242,082; Napier—Banks £410,000; Post Qffice town, £80,169; country, £92,285; Wangaimi Post Office £102,760; Poverty Bay £249,000 ; Invercargill Tost Office .£.236,000' total over £300,---000. . NEW PLYMOUTH, September 3, The Harbour Board Sinking Fund Commissioners have invested £3000 in the war loan and the Taranaki Jockey Club £500. -
