The lit. Hon. Albert George' Grey, 4th Earl (cr. 1805), P.G. I9OS>vG.C.B. 11)11 ; G.C.V.Q., 4908 ;. President of the "Boyal Caloiiial Institute and Chancellor of the Orficr of St. Michael- and h?t. George, Avas born in 1851,- and was a son of General/ the Hon. Charles jGrcy. He was educated at Harrow land Trinity College, Cambridge, where ho- was Senior in Law, and History Tripos, 1573. His iirst appearance in politics was in 1878, when/he- entered •t'iic House of Commons; but only to remain in it for a f ew xninuteli I ;:He and liis Conservative opponent polled., the same number of votes. As the- returning officer refused; to give a- castinp *ote, they both presented themselves at the table in the House and ; de,manded to bo^sworitvin as M.P. H^tfwoverj a scrutiny was : ordered, and the seat went to the Conservative. Two years, later Mr. Grey w,as elected without'any doubt. Then he was twentynine, a young man who had done well at Cambridge; who had married the great heiress Miss Holford, daughter of Mr. Eobert Holford,' M.P. V for Wfcstoubirt _and was heir to his uncle's peerage.
