We have heard a lot from Australia lately giving the opinion that handicappers on the other side were taking too much liberty with New Zealand horses, 3ays an Auckland paper, but the question of English importationdoes not seem, as far as, one can judge on published statements, to be given the same adverse criticism. The latest to make a prominent showing in an 'important event is Polygamist, who, let in tkc Australian Hurdle Race with 9.11 won comfortably by three lengths. Polygamist is certainly a novice over "hurdles, but has some fair 1 performances to his credit on the flat. _Le is a good-looking horse, but has earniejfl.; a reputation for unreliability, one -Melbourne writer recently describing ■ l__'"a.' a "handosrae old thief." He started in the Maiden at Flemington last month, and was only beaten a head, and a fortnight later was running well iw the Leamington Hurdle Race at Caulfield when he got into a mix-up at ihe last hurdle, which lost him a good winning chance, and he eventually finished fourth.
