' \ t* ADDXNGTON SALES. Last "Wednesday's stock sales at Addingtqn showed the following condition .of the market. Out figures are from, the "Lyttelton Times*" : — FAT CATTLE. i f The ofFering of fat cattle was the smallest seen at Addington for some considerable time. The yarding was of mixed quality, with an undue proportion of light and inferior, but there particularly nice handy-weight heifers, particularly nice hndy-weight heifers. ' At the opening the market was irreg- 1 nlar, but it eventually settled at an average rate of 60s per 1001 b for prime" beef. Dealers' reserves were evidently fixed at about this figure, and several lines failing to reach the standard were passed. The following was the range of prices — Prime steers £26 10s, Ordinary steers £11 to £15. Extra Prime cows to £25 10s, Prim*, cows £1- to £20, Ordinary' cows £8 15s to £13, Extra Prime heifers £12 to £15 10s. Ordinary heifers £9: 5s to £11 10s. VEALERS. A moderate yarding of vealers contained a large proportion or young calves, but the best quality was seen in the heavier weights. There was a ** good demand, and prices wore as follows : — Small and inferior 5s to 40s, good vealers £2 to £s, 'runners £6 to £7 2s 6d. *a__pfe_____F BS6- 1 - STORE CATTLE. # \ In the store cattle pens the entry contained little wothy of comment, the exceptiqn being a couple of good three-year-oldsi and calves and dry cows made up the blance. The market was lifeless, sales being effected as follows :: — Yearlings, mixed, to £5 9s, two-year olds, mixed, £7, 7s to £8 ss, three to four year-year-old. steers, £12 7s 6d, two-year-old heifers, £7 2s 6d, dry cows, £2 to £9 10s. DAIRY CATTLE. * The dairy cows yarded were only a moderate lot, some of the heifers being in poor order. The demand was keener than; at recent sales, and most of the yarding brought satisfactory prices. There was keen competition for good cows, and £16. 5s was paid for . one, with several at £10 to £I_, whilst poor sorts made from £5 upwards. : •;■;. FAT eiHEEP. There were seven races of fat sheep containing a fair element of prime heavy wethers/ but the general average of the quality was not up to that of the previous week. There was a keen demand, and prices showed an advance of about Is 6d a head for prime' quality. Five of the new season's lambs, sent in by Mi. H. Blakemore, of Springston, made 25s 6d to 345. The range of prices was as follows: • Extr<>^pfime wethers to 50s 6d, primfO^nhers '41s to 48s 9d, ligther wethe, ;^Bbs 2d, to 40s 6d, extra .prime merin^ljyethers, 23s to 26s 4d, primewe's 3\r6 6d to 43s 6d, medium ewes 33s 6d to 375, lighter ewes 30s to 335, prime hoggets 60s 33s 6d, others 25s lOd to 28s 6d. STORE SHEEP. T The- store sheep yarding was not parti.ularly- large, consisting mostly of hbggfets. The. demand for hoggets was" irregular, but wethers sold at late rate., while the ewes, mostly of indifferent quality, met only a moderate inquiry. The range of prices was : — Two and four-tooth ewes fo 30s 6d, bound-mouth ewes to 37s 7d, two and four-tooth wethers 24s to 35s 7d, four six, and eight-tooth wethers 26s to 38s 9d, ewe hoggets to 34s 3d, wether hoggets 24s 3d to 31s 7d, mixed sex hoggets 25s lid to 30s lOd. | FAT PIGS. The yarding of fat pigs was small tend the shortage more pronounced. The demand was keen. The range of prices was : — Extra heavy baconers to £7, medium ibaconers, £5 10s to £6, lighter bacdhers £4 to. £s, equal to B_d to 9d pejfib, heavy porkers 65s to 755, ordiflary pokers 50s to 60s, equal to 9_d to 10_d per lb. There was a good entry of store pigs' and the demand was extremely keen. Bidding was particularly keen for . weaners. , The range of prices was: — Large stores 55s to 60s, medium' stores 42s to 48s, smaller stores 30s to 38s, weaners ISs 6d (very small) to 30s, sows in pig to £5 10s.
