KILLED BY SNIPER
death of brigadier-general ' * johnst6n; ' • WELLINGTON,. August 18 (Special from the New Zealand War . Correspondent.), AUGUST 7. Brigadier-General F. .K . Johnston was killed this morning in the front line near Warneton, by a sniper's bullet,' death, being instantaneous. He had lately been in command of an infantry reserve" group in Englaud, and had only been a few days back in Fiance. Only yetserday he attended a conference at the Divisional Headquarters, and to his old friends had expressed his delight at getting to the 1 front again. The brigadier was a very brave soldier and scorned danger. He was killed on the morning ot the second anniversary of his former brigade's attack on Chunuk Bair, Gallipoli, on which occasion he fearlessly exposed himself in launching the assault. His family is one that has not spared itself in this war, rour of his brothers, ono of whom was killed, having enlisted. The funeral will take place to-mor-row in the cemetery where Brigadier(aeneral Brown was buried.
