(From Our Special Correspondent) HOKITIKA, August 24.. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held this morning before Mr. T. Hutchison, S.M., when the following business was disposed of: i — I . DRUNKENNESS. I A first offender charged with drunkjeuness pleaded not guilty. Alter hearing the evidence defendant was convicted and fined 5s and 7s costs. SOLICITOR J S TRUST ACCOUNT. ] A. D.. ( D. Crawford (Mr. Sellers) i I was charged 011 the information of A. ; JTudehope, of the Crown Land Oftiee, jfor whom Mr. Park appeared, that he I did fail to have his trust " account ; audited as required by law. Mr. Scllars said lie, had been instructed to plead guilty. and to ask thiit tho question of the penalty to be I inflicted be held over for one month, [so as to enable defendant to get his 'book returned from the auditor. Mr. Park consenting, his Worship said that he would record a conviction and defer, fixing the penally until next Court day. BOROUGH BY-LAWS. . W. Duncan, charged on the information of the Borough Inspector with allowing a cow to wander ov the boIrougli streets, was convicted aiiiSscil '2/0. Ralph Mackley, charged wim bresich of the borough by-laws in respect to the storage of tlangerous goods (petrol), was fined £1. ' : LICENSING ACT. A fust offender, who did not ripposir, was lined £1 for being on licensed prcmirio.s during prohibited hours. FAILURE TO NOTIFY. James C. Lincoln, x on the information of the police, said he supposed he was guilty of two charges of failing to notify change of address as required by the Military Service Act. Defendant explained that he had given notice of change of his address to Inchbonuie and produced the acknowledgment he had received. When he came back to Hokitika he had not given notice, but when ho left for Okuru he told " Sergeant " Bonisch he was going.His Worship: Have you been drawn !m the ballot? Witness: No, not yet. His Worship: Then there is hope for you this week. You are convicted find sentence will be postponed until next Court day. I suppose you "are perfectly fit? Defendant: Yes. His Worship: Then I rim going to ; see what is going to happen. The country wants all the good men it can get.
