QUESTION OF HOURS,

(Per Press Association.)

WELLINGTON. August 24.'

Replying in tlie House to Mr. P. C. Webb, the Hon. W. Fraser said that his officers had reported to him mat the ventilation .of the Otira tunnel, was being kept as clear as possible, and he did not believe otherwise. He would, however, ask for a further report- and if it were proved that the men should only be working in the atmosphere for si» hours a day he would have arfanjiei ments made accordingly. However he must point out that an effort was being made by all employees to have their hours reduced to six for eight hours pay and he was not going to do it, even if he had to stop the work.
