Mrs E. Stratford and Mts Wood, of Aratika, are sisters .Mr.. M. Blewman, Kaiata. is the father. Mr. W. Debenham .who served his apprenticeship at the Dispatch Foundry. Greymouth. . sat at . Christchurch for his v third marine engineer's certificate and passed with credit. ' :< He returned home last evening and .will spend a couple of weeks with his parents Mr; arid Mrs F. Debanham of Puketahi Stteet, prior to going into camp.
Before commencing- business last evening- the Chairman of the Greymouth Harbour; Bonrd moved a vote of sympathy with '-Mr. Irvine in the bereavement caused by the death of his son on active service. He congratulated Mr. Irvine on beinqf the father of a son who was willing- to face his duty althoujrh he very much reo-retted that Private Irvine had been called unnn to make the supreme saeri fi^e. The motion was seconded by A f r. G. K. Perlfins anrl carried in silence, the board 'standing-. Private Charles . Debenham (died' of peritonitis) was the second son of Mr. and • Mrs H. E. J)ebenham, Jacksons, and was 23 years, of age. Private Debenham enlisted from Culyerden in tho 7th Reinfocements, but owing to illness in camp he was rejected, but aga'n onlisted in the 22nd Reinforcements, and was transferred to the 21st, eventually 3ailing with that draft. Mr. and- Mrs Dubenham have two other sons now ser ving in France, Private H. E. Deben?iam, of the 18th, and Private J. Deben. ham, of the 14th Reinforcements. Mrs Frances Wlrigham died at iNurse -Shark's private hospital Timaru, on Saturday nig-ht. after a week's illness from an internal trouble Deceased. who had lived with her son I- Mr. James Wing-ham, at Dunollie for three years, only went to Timaru about twelve months ago. She was an artiste of more than ordinary abil-' itv and her paintings were much admired and highly prized.
